Any precious vacation time that we get together, my husband and I go west, and try to get a good hike in around significant rock formations. I’ve loved rocks since I was child. My favorites are the Sedona Red Rocks and the Guadalupe Mountains, and  now I have to add the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Nevada .It is easy to sit high up in the sandstones or walk near the red and brown thrust faults and feel the mountain air, the open sky, and know that you are connected very deeply to all of it.

The pristine, unspoiled space is a 13 mile loop and series of trails that cover an area that was once the Western coast of the United States. According to the Bureau of Land Management, For much of the past 600 million years, the land that is now Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area was the bottom of a deep ocean basin and the western coast of North America was in present day western Utah.” There’ also amazing thrust faults. Here are a few photos.
